Over the last four years, Jenny has been focusing her talents on the medical field.
She started simply, editing a medical fiction piece written by a local practitioner.
Shortly after, Jenny began helping a different medical doctor with a handbook for his patients. They needed specific instructions to live with their diseases of obesity and diabetes, and the doctor needed help structuring the information, understanding his writing and how to proceed, editing, and ghostwriting.
She eventually added two medical clinics to her resume by writing and editing website content. She helped with branding, social media management, writing in-office brochures, and more. Jenny’s favorite part of social media management is offering hope and clear instructions to those who need medical guidance.
Jenny studied linguistics and was an adjunct professor of psycholinguistics at Boise State University, interning and teaching above 400 level classes.
Jenny’s background of neuroscience with language helped when she was assigned to write content for Harvard Bioscience, including all of their neuroscience content. She was trusted with much more: cardiovascular, respiratory, and eventually, their crucial home page.
Throughout her history of medical writing, she has translated complex scientific studies into comprehensible media, offered medical device solutions, and written complex science to B2B audiences and simple science to consumers who need help.
Jenny enjoys the research and is excited by discovery. She invites growth into her life daily and welcomes new challenges.
-
Jenny has a growth mindset. She feels that the joy in her life comes from two things:
⓵ Digging into something that she finds interesting. Learning, obsessing, and using new information to improve her well-being and world view.
⓶ Dogs. Dogs. Dogs. She might surround herself with an entire pack if given the freedom and space. But, for now, there’s Nelly, a silly, sweet, delightful border terrier with a penchant for squeaky objects.
But, to the task at hand: growth.
Jenny was naturally curious at a young age. She taught herself storytelling early, then wrote books of poetry as a teen before understanding structure. She still enjoys freestyle poetry and continues its practice, though upon studying creative writing, she delights in the (often) mind-numbing battle for structure too. She sees writing as an ongoing challenge that’s likely to never find perfection, though what writer ever feels they do find it? Perhaps a beginner.
Jenny was interested in the Scottish Gaelic language because of stories of the Lindsay Clan (her grandmother’s line), told to her by her father at an impressionable age. She always felt the language was untouchable, a treasure she had ached to acquire but didn’t think she would ever be given the key.
One day she found Sabhal Mòr Ostaig — and that changed everything. After a few years, she earned a certificate of conversational fluency in Gaelic, then studied more languages and earned her linguistics degree!
She loves psychology and philosophy, and she is interested in Jungian works as well as Nietzsche and others. She loves the storytelling style of Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés and continues her journey through philosophy by collecting new works.
Jenny’s path of discovery continues. What will be next? She can’t help but wonder.
-
Jenny visualizes every composition in detail. Like episodic writing, she has an overall arch or understanding of a project, then a smaller arc for each idea within the piece. She works within a visual structure, whether writing stories, journalistic articles, motivational essays, or advertising.
-
Jenny’s earliest happy memories come from her imagining stories as a small child.
She wrote her first book at age six. Her main character was a little girl who lived in a traditional Irish Croft cottage. She rode a bicycle with a basket that held her collected wildflowers. She rested her bike along a fence that paralleled a coastal lane and bundled her flowers into small bouquets that she could sell to purchase food for her family.
It was a basic story but set the trajectory for the rest of Jenny’s life. For if she could visit Ireland using creation, what else could she see?
Jenny’s early stories were descriptive. Imagination sparked the idea for the pictures, and Jenny wrote what she saw. She illustrated her stories as well.

Current Role Recommendations
Dear Hiring Manager,
I write to you on behalf of Jenny Gilman. I hired Jenny twice in contract capacities when I was marketing director at two different companies, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. In each of these roles she was laid off as a result of cost reductions.
Jenny is as fine a creative writer as I’ve come across in my 30 year career. She is particularly adept at writing for the life sciences market, with the unique ability of distilling complicated technical and scientific content into compelling storytelling. She is a passionate scientific writer with seamlessly endless energy in researching and understanding her subject matter and the intended audience.
She works assertively with her business partners and subject matter experts to understand the “so what,” and get to the heart and importance of the topics and messages to develop all types of content: website, case studies, infographics, white papers….you name it.
If all she was, was an expert copywriter, that would be a huge asset to any content marketing team. In fact, though, she is a fine digital and content marketer too. She understands how to write for all channels – digital or otherwise – and to ensure that the content is optimized for search, social media, and online advertising.
She regularly advises the team on best practices and consistently generates new ideas. She’s also been invaluable in leveraging new AI technologies to create efficiencies in our content development. I can’t recommend Jenny highly enough.

Jenny Gilman is amazing! Her copy-edit work on my novel was such a refreshing surprise - thorough and professional - catching everything from typos, nonsensical sentences, errant commas, and rogue semicolons. She was also very helpful in story structure as well. Finding Jenny was like discovering gold.
